Paste Inside

Postby numtre » Fri Mar 20, 2009 12:28 am

Hello Inkscapers

I've been using this great software for a while now, and it works great except for one thing.

How do I paste a picture inside a shape?

Example: I make a rectangle with rounded corners. I want to paste a picture inside my shape so the picture gets the shape of the rectangle.

Is this possible? How would you do that?
I remember Freehand used to be able to do it.

Thx for any reply!

you can either clip the image with your shape, or convert it to a pattern and apply it as a fill.
Either way paste it in normally, then look in the object menu.
if you have any trouble i suggest looking in [theguide]the manual. [/theguide]

The only way to do that is already told by Simarilius

When using clip, you can't adjust the image directly after you pasted it inside the shape, you have to "release clip" first in order adjust the position, and then clip it again.

But if you use fill pattern, you can adjust it using :tool_node: node tool directly.

...unless you create a group with the image (yes, the image alone - select it, Ctrl + G), then clip. Then you can select the image inside the clipped group (Ctrl + Click) and edit it.

There's even an option for that to happen automatically: Edit > Preferences > Behavior > clippaths and masks: 'Before applying:...'
