To all,
I have this Gif not created by me. I need to change / edit the text. I have looked though the documentation and searched the forms and have not found a way to do this as of yet. I am a brand new user to Inkscape. I don't know if I missed something in the documentation or this is a advance technique. I have also tried to do this by playing around with Inkscape as well. I will include a copy of the Gif.

You won't be able to directly edit a GIF using Inkscape. That's because GIF is a raster format, and Inkscape is a vector editor (http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... phics.html). You could convert it to vector, but when you do that, the text will become a path, making it impossible to edit as text. So you would have to delete the paths that form the text, and type new text. But for that matter, it's such a simple image, you could draw it from scratch just as easily. I would suggest starting to learn Inkscape from the "Inkscape Basics" part of my forum signature, if you still want to use Inkscape. We'll be glad to help if you get stuck

Or you could use a raster graphics program to edit the GIF. There's one called The GIMP, which is free and open source, like Inkscape.

basically the text you see in a gif on any other raster graphics file format (e.g. jpeg, tiff, png, bmp) is no longer text as soon as it is saved in raster format (such as gif etc.)
to achieve what you want i think the quickest way (in either a raster graphics program or in inkscape) is to overlay the current "text" with a green rectangle, with a suitable gradient towards black so that it blends with the existing gradient. then use a text tool to create new text on top.
