Some Topics Crash FireFox

Postby EarlyBlake » Mon Jun 09, 2008 11:01 am

This is probably not unique to this forum but FYI. When ever I load the page viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1083 "How can I prevent banding in my png?," FireFox 2.0.0.14. crashes. I don't get an error message with a number, it just says firefox has stopped working and windows (vista) is shutting it down. It doesn't happen for all topic. Weird ha?

It did not do this last week. I've been lurking around the forum for a while. Guess I'll have to use Explorer :(

If a browser crashes on a page, it's a fault with the browser, not with the page. Even if there's something wrong with the page, it shouldn't be able to crash a browser. I'm using Firefox 3 RC2 and the page displays fine.

You might like to make sure you're running the latest version of FireFox. If you already are, you might like to report the crash to the Firefox developers. Note that the page you say crashes Firefox happens to display a SVG file. It could be that FF is not handling the displaying of SVG files in a web page correctly.

That page works fine with FF 2.0.0.14 on WinXP. Try it with all extensions disabled. If it works enable them again one by one.

OK, I turned off all my extensions and now FF doesn't crash. It just hang until I CRT ALT DEL it out of existence. I know it's not worth spending any more time worrying about. Must be some weird vista thing or something.

If you want it fixed, you really should find a FF forum to discuss the issue on. There may be a simple fix.

It never happened to me, and I bookmark like a hamster lol

What Firefox version are you using? Version 3 is an enormous improvement in bookmarks. How exactly do you bookmark, by clicking on the star icon in the address bar? When you do that it stores the bookmark automatically in the Unsorted bookmarks folder. When you click the star again you get a dialogue where you choose where to actually store the bookmark. Look in that folder and see if your bookmarks are there (Go to Organize Bookmarks, all the way down).

There is also the option Recently bookmarked, do they appear there?
Also when you bookmark a page and you visit it again, the yellow star in the address bar is yellow, and on the pages you haven't bookmarked it's plain.
