[UNSOLVABLE] Exporting Inksape picture as editing object

Postby Ponny » Wed Oct 10, 2007 9:01 pm

Hoy-hoy

How can I export Inkscape picture from Inkscape and embed it in other program like MS Word, OpenOffice Writer and etc. You now, copy - paste style. Then you can edit this object later. By double click on embed object you run Inkscape and then you can edit object in ther and then return editet picter back in his place in (Ooo) document.

Both of this not working yet in Inkscape 0.45.1

May be author plan this feature for future. But what future? Few months? Few years?

I need this feature in very often.

Have nice rainy day

Maybe never :)

What you are describing requires OLE support in an application that is supposed to work on UNIX systems like Linux and Mac OS X besides Windows (well, historically Linux is primary development platform for Inkscape), and OLE-like things are not so widely used there.

Probably you can get along with KOffice (especially when KOffice 2.0 for Windows is out) and Karbon14 which is its vector graphics editor that supports SVG.

It's also highly unlikely Microsoft will add support for SVG in future versions of Word.

Visio already supports SVG for several years, so never say never :)

Yesssss!!!!! This is the word, I forgot. OLE! You now. Like bull games in Spain. Well, I need support for OLE linking and embeddig in Windows. But OLE (or equivalent) not working in Linux too. I have Fedora 6.

All Windows drawing programs include OLE support. Vector und raster. My be Inkscape have not, because, it is still deep in beta. Maybe OLE support will come in final version.

I was wondering, slightly hoping, that someone would prove me wrong :)

And what about wmf? Anyone tried to save to that format and use it in word as a clipart?
