How to Convert SVG into a Format SO That It Doesn't LOSE Data?

Postby Kimmiexsweetie » Wed Aug 14, 2019 3:46 pm

Hi everyone!

I'm a newb here, so please "explain to me like I'm five" when you do reply.

Here's the issue I keep running into: Whenever I convert my SVG file into a PNG, I lose the "blur tool" data I used on my image.

Here's an example:

In the SVG format, you can see that the white figure is blurred for that "supernatural," "ghost-like" feel

Image

But unfortunately, when converted into PNG, it loses the blur, as you can see below.

My questions:
1. How can I convert my SVG image files into the following formats (jpg, jpeg, bmp, png, gif, tif and tiff) so that I don't lose data?
2. Are there any suggestions for programs I can download that can BULK convert SVG files to another format (while preserving my data)? I have about 80 images that I need to convert!

Thanks in advance.

Are you using File > Export PNG image? Or File > Save as > Cairo PNG? The latter is not a normal PNG. Use the first option for exporting PNG images.
Inkscape can do bulk conversion, see https://inkscape.org/doc/inkscape-man.html

Hi there Moini!

Thank you for your reply.

Yes I export to PNG image, not Cairo PNG.

When I export to PNG, it loses the "blur tool" data, and I'm not sure what to do.

Thank you so much for the info on bulk conversion

Oh my god, THANK YOU MOINI!

You're totally right. That's what I was doing wrong. You're a life saver! And thank you for directing me to the bulk conversion link!

Inkscape can do bulk conversion, see

Aye aye aye, it's like you fix one thing (the blur data loss), and another issue pops up

Export only the page area (first tab in the dialog), not the drawing area, and also not a selection or custom area.
