Hi,
I am using inkscape 0.91, and the default snapping behaviour has changed. I like the fine tuning, but I would like to, by default, have snapping on for cusp nodes and text.
Is there any way to save this information in the general inkscape preferences; so that when I create a new document I don't have to first set up all the snapping?
The release notes allude to this by mentioning "the snapping preferences" in the context of clicking the snapping boxes along the top; but the bit in Preferences -> Behaviour -> Snapping seems to only cover how it snaps, not what it snaps to?
Many thanks,
Henk
Saving snapping preferences?
Re: Saving snapping preferences?
Hello,
I think it's not possible, but I may be wrong
I can only point to these (the last 0.48 version guide):

If you have problems:
1.- Post a sample (or samples) of your file please.

Re: Saving snapping preferences?
I thought so, thanks!
Re: Saving snapping preferences?
Try with New file, adjust all of the settings to what you`d prefer to see when you start Inkscape and than save that file as "default" (Inkscape/Share/Templates/)
Re: Saving snapping preferences?
I'd still not recommend to overwrite a shared file (e.g. the default template for new documents) distributed with and installed by inkscape (you can't restore the original easily) - Inkscape does load custom user templates (including a custom default template for new documents) stored in the user's Inkscape profile, as mentioned before in similar topics (this works on all platforms - Windows is no exception here).Maestral wrote:Try with New file, adjust all of the settings to what you`d prefer to see when you start Inkscape and than save that file as "default" (Inkscape/Share/Templates/)henkmuller wrote:Is there any way to save this information in the general inkscape preferences; so that when I create a new document I don't have to first set up all the snapping?
- Location for user templates:
(You can also look up the full path to the user's Inkscape profile in 'Edit > Preferences > System: User config'.)- Windows:
(paste the string below into the address bar of Explorer to access it in case AppData is hidden on your system):Code: Select all
%APPDATA%\inkscape\templates\
- Linux/OS X:
Code: Select all
$HOME/.config/inkscape/templates/
- Windows:

(a few minor details might have changed since the article was written - the sub-menu is now a dialog to choose a custom template - but the underlying basic stuff is still the same in Inkscape 0.91.)

Are snap preferences stored in a template? It depends which preferences you're talking about. For cusp nodes and text, which the op mentioned, I don't think so. Although I haven't tried it.
For the options (which are now) in Document Properties, those should be saved, I think....if you have the proper options set in Inkscape Preferences > Interface > Windows. And the snap options (Inks Prefs > Behavior > Snapping) should be saved.
Oh wow! I just created a custom template, and it did save the snap options! I'm surprised! And good news for Henk
Although he may want to consider whether he wants that for the default template, or just another template. If he names it "default.svg" it will open every time he opens Inkscape. But if he names it something else, he'll have to open it separately, after opening the default doc (from File menu > Templates).

Re: Saving snapping preferences?
Never got around to say thank you - as ~suv suggested, I saved it in ~/.config/inkscape/templates/default.svg and it works like magic.
