Envelope deformation & 3D text ???

Postby bigcheez » Wed Jul 21, 2010 12:37 pm

I am attempting to use the following method to create 3D text:
3d text (bevel edge effect) in inkscape

I also want to use the 'Path Effect Editor'>'Envelope Deformation' to make the right edge twice as large as the left.

Applying the deformation effect after making the 3D text ruins the 3D appearance.
I also cannot create the 3D text while preserving the deformation effect.
I thought the answer might be in the 'Envelope Extension' but I have had no luck getting that to work correctly.

Any suggestions?
don't talk to me 'til I've had my coffee . . .
            . . . then I'll do the talkin' !!!

1. Apply the deformation first, prior to going on with the steps of the referenced tutorial.

2. Create your text then Convert it to a Path >Path >Object to Path (Shift+Ctrl+C)

3. Apply the envelope effect >Path >Path Effect Editor.. (Shift+Ctrl+7) [Envelope Deformation]

2. Once you are done with the Envelope setup, use >Path >Object to Path (Shift+Ctrl+C) a second time.

This will remove the envelope attribute that inkscape still has assigned to your object. To check the removal select the envelope deformed object and open the Path Effect Editor... and the Envelope effect will not be enabled.

3, Now you can proceed with the tutorial
