Inkscape 0.48-2 Mountain Lion Pattern on Path

Postby PapaSue » Tue Jan 15, 2013 7:25 am

I got a new computer and now my Inkscape 0.48-2 will not do patern on path. In general all other features are working that I've tried. I've downloaded and reinstalled the latest vs of Inkscape 0.48-1 since I can't find anywhere that there is a vs for Mountain Lion. I don't remember EVER having to do this since I started with Inkscape about 4 years ago, this feature has always worked.

This is the message I get

The fantastic lxml wrapper for libxml2 is required by inkex.py and therefore this extension. Please download and install the latest version from http://cheeseshop.python.org/pypi/lxml/, or install it through your package manager by a command like: sudo apt-get install python- l

Yes I have downloaded and "install" Quartz but if it says install in Utilities but I really don't know where to put it. When I open Inkscape Mac still says X11 on the Menu Bar, could this be a problem.lxm?

I've been to cheeseshop but I can't find this extension there. Can someone help me please?

You should be able to search the forum for that error message and find other topics about it. While I've read them all, the answer never sticks with me, since I don't use a Mac.

Eggbot is an extensions program for Inkscape.

It requires 0.47 or higher to be installed, but its recommended to use Inkscape 48.2 or higher.

Eggbot can fix the problem of not being able to use the Extensions tool for Mac OSX Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion.

You can download the latest version of The Eggbot extensions here:

http://code.google.com/p/eggbotcode/dow ... s.mpkg.zip

Hope this helps!!!! :)

I'm not a Mac user, but I was glad to see the solution mentioned earlier in this topic (because we were getting a lot of messages about it):

So I'm curious why installing the Eggbot extension solves the same problem? I don't see how installing an extension could make the changes mentioned in the Launchpad Answers post. Maybe that's the problem in your other message, where you apparently used Eggbot to make Inkscape work properly on Macs? Not that I'm very technicallly inclined, and as I said, I'm not even a Mac user. But I am curious how 2 different things can solve this "fantastic lxml wrapper" issue.

Well, we dont want to compile our own lxml version just to get it to work. Some of us including me, is not a programmer. Im not good at it. I just use Macports to install apps

But if you read the 7th post here: https://answers.launchpad.net/inkscape/+question/194132 -- that's not compiling. It looks to me like just changing one line of text somewhere.

Maybe I just don't understand.....maybe extensions work differently in Macs. In Windows, to install an Inkscape extension, I only have to put 2 files (PY and INX) in the proper folder. And when I say "install" it's really just putting those 2 files in the right place. It's not exactly what we think of with the word "install".

But again, what it is about the Eggbot extension which solves this problem?

:tool_eraser: Inkscape runs very different on macs than windows.

Windows: Inkscape just runs on its own

Mac: Inkscape runs on X11 or XQuartz servers

I bet we just find the simple way of getting the lxml wrapper error to be fixed by using Eggbot.

I'm not sure what could be simpler than the solution offered by ~suv, in the previously referenced message.

I posted the Gtk Warning bug on the Inkscape Launchpad website:

If anybody wants to comment, ~suv can help me fix this bug.

Thank you for this solution. I've spent several hours trying to fix this problem and then I found your solution. Although I was confused about Eggbot and didn't know whether it was a safe option, I took the risk and was rewarded. Best wishes.
