Hi,
i use Inkscape a lot, from mockups to generating invoices. I constantly export to PDF.
Whenever i do that, i have to save the document, choose pdf and click save.
If i have a change to make I have to (1) save again, (2) choose "Inkscape SVG", (3) click "Replace". Then to export, (4) save again, (5) choose PDF and (6) click OK ( on SVG options), (7) click REPLACE ( on replace file ).
Wondering if i been doing this the wrong way, and if there's a button like on Libreoffice, to save to PDF without fuss ( one click/ one shortkey, keep same options of document and keep working on .svg file ).
thank you!

Re: Export to PDF without changing file type
Hi @pcarvalho, welcome to the forum.
Maybe a small simplification might be:
Open and work on your SVG, do changes and also save it as SVG (Ctrl+S). That's your "Source or working File".
If you want a PDF use "Save a copy" (Shift+Ctrl+Alt+S).
With this, you keep work working with your SVG (and not switching to PDF).
I do the same thing when saving to DXF. However, what drives me crazy
is that with "Save a copy" you have to select the File Format PDF or DXF or other... again and again from the file format list. Why can't Inkscape remember at least the last "Save a copy"-File format?
Maybe worth a feature request?! Shouldn't be too difficult to implement...
A single button with exporting (or "Save a copy") using the last selected file format would be even better.

Re: Export to PDF without changing file type
For me, it remembers it... Are you using Inkscape on Windows, @theozh? gtk or native save dialogs? Don't you (additionally) have a 'recently used' section in your save dialog?

Re: Export to PDF without changing file type
@Moini, yes, Win7/64.
gtk or native? Sorry, I don't know. How can I tell the difference? Maybe a hint... the save dialog buttons are in German (probably because my Win7 is in DE) although I set English for Inkscape.
No, I don't see a "recently used" section in the save dialog.

Re: Export to PDF without changing file type
There's an option in the preferences, I don't know where exactly, probably in the 'System' section (not on Windows myself, I don't have that option). It changes the way the dialogs look and work - either it uses Window's own dialogs, or those that come with Inkscape's framework. Perhaps the other one works better (or worse, who knows!). Worth trying out, I think.

Re: Export to PDF without changing file type
Thanks, @Moini, the setting you mentioned is hidden under Preferences (Shift+Ctrl+P)
Interface | Windows | Desktop Integration | GTK open/save dialogs
If you set it to GTK, it remembers the last file format
Well, to my opinion, this actually should be the standard setting after installing Inkscape.

Cool
(really didn't know if it would help, only thought it might) You could make a feature request

Re: Export to PDF without changing file type
Thanks again @Moini, I never thought and would have found that you actually have a choice with the open/save dialogs.
A "good" one and a "bad" one, whereas the "bad" one is set as default...
I put it on the wishlist. It shouldn't be a big thing and it shouldn't harm to set it as default with Inkscape installation.
