hi
So I have a very vague question (or set of questions)
when I use the path effect editor I don't seem to be able to "limit" the effect.
That is, once I add the effect when I add any other elements [like more text or shapes] it seems those texts and shapes are automatically effecting (as well as being affected by) the path effect I've added.
Also, another related question...when I put text on a path (say a circle) but then want to delete the circle and just have the curved text I loose BOTH the text and the circle. How do I selectively make sure only the circle is deleted? [and not the text I put on the circle]
thanks

Re: Path Effect Editor
Hi.
If I get it right you want to add a text on path, and also a path effect on the path too?
You can duplicate (Ctrl+D) the original path and use one for the path effect and one for the text.
I haven't used the text on path feature much but instead of deleting the base path you can lower it's opacity to 0%.
That way you can still edit the shape -in outlines only display mode for example-.

Re: Path Effect Editor
Hi,
I didn't really explain my first "question" well...it was more of a general frustration. That is, when I use the path effect editor it seems to effect EVERYTHING, including new things I later add. If I can better explain my question I will.
Regarding the second one...it's true I could make the base transparent...and I did. But that doesn't ultimately seem like a good solution.. Isn't there a way to just delete that shape but keep the text? [or whatever it was I put on the path?]
thanks

Re: Path Effect Editor
Hello
About the text on a path, other solution is convert the text to a path (Shift+Ctrl+c), but the text object lose the property of being edited as a text. Other option is "hide" the path object. You win something but lose something, in this case.
About the LPE, it's not the usual behaviour. If you have a path selected and you apply a LPE, just the path is affected. Unless you applied the LPE to a GROUP of paths. If you continue adding objects to the group, the LPE will affect to those other objects. Maybe if you could post a sample file, We could check what it's happening.
Greetings

Re: Path Effect Editor
Hi Hulf...
regarding the text on path...I thought I did convert the text to a path first...maybe I didn't. but are you saying that if the text is a path then the path I put it on (like the circle) should be deletable? (is that a word...aside).
about the LPE...well it was a GROUP. Maybe I was inadvertently adding something to a group? Perhaps next time I should just create a new layer? (I can't really post a file right now...maybe I'll just create a new file with that effect and see if I can replicate the problem and then post the file...)
thanks

Yes.
The text will be converted to a GROUP of paths. The guiding path (e.g. the circle) can be deleted
