Trouble saving my final as .pdf or .eps

Postby FreezeThawCycles » Wed Feb 15, 2012 3:35 am

I recently finished a design for a cycling jersey using Inkscape 0.48 on my MacBook Pro 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 Gb memory. I use the program often at work for small graphics projects and logo design. Usually I have no issues saving my final pieces as .eps or .pdf for different people to print or use. These are usually very small documents.

For this jersey I was working from templates supplied from the company (Sugoi) that came to me as a .pdf because they knew I was using an alternative graphics program. After importing and completing the two templates in Inkscape I ran into problems saving my .svg files as an .eps or .pdf to send to the printer. When trying to save either design to the correct format my computer came up with a an internal error message and quit Inkscape. A .pdf was generated but with no content. For reference, one of the designs was 3 mb/18,000 x 4,770 px and the other was 946 kb/17,910 x 7,110 px. Both were just the stock sizes from importing the templates and filling in my designs.

I tried the same actions on another MacBook Pro with 4Gb memory and got the same results. I sent the .svg files to the printing company and they said they were not able to fully open them (for reference, they use the current version of Adobe Ilustrator).

I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or had any suggestions for saving these files properly. Any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Justin from Freeze Thaw Cycles in State College, Pennsylvania

Would it be possible to upload the SVG file to the forum?

I can understand a "no" answer if the file contains private info or if you wish to keep your artwork from others.

However, if that isn't the case, please embed any images and turn all fonts into paths. Perhaps this is an Inkscape limitation, so it would seem if you've tested this on more than one computer. Nevertheless, a successful conversion would be helpful.

Possibly the trouble is related to the PDF template? Would it be possible to convert the SVG drawing separately, and combine with the template later? Actually I'm not sure what the template consists of, if it's just the size of document, or if it contains other content?
