hi, i`m new here!
i already get along great using inkscape, and getting nice results
BUT i still don`t know some things to improve my skills further.
got a few basic questions:
1. Which colors do i need to make fake-gold, fake-silver, fake-chrome.
say i want to draw a golden cube with shades+light, which colors do i need to use?
(brown, yellow, hazelnut, white???)
2. let`s pretend i want to draw a coconut (which is broken in two pieces)
first i draw 2x circles (inside, outside) but which tool enables me to
model the outlined shape of the (circle) to make it look more realistic?
(e.g. sueezing, modeling the circle shape to make it look more natural)
and...
3. how to do wood and marble?
a basic issue
Re: a basic issue
1. Try to take a couple images on openclipart apart (download SVG, open with Inkscape): https://openclipart.org/search/?query=gold
2. The node tool, or the extensions 'add nodes' and 'jitter nodes', or the tweak tool could be used for this.
3. With filters, maybe (non-filter examples are also included in the results):
https://openclipart.org/search/?query=wood
https://openclipart.org/search/?query=marble

Re: a basic issue
1 -- You could search for photos of what you want to draw (like maybe a gold brick or heavy chain necklace), import the photo into Inkscape, and use the Dropper tool to discover the colors.
2 -- Theoretically, the Tweak tool should be good for making the shredded looking outside of a coconut. But I've found it to be a bit buggy tool. Sometimes it works great, other times, not so much. If you try, enable Roughen Parts of Path button. And here's a little more dependable way.
-- draw the path
-- with Node tool, click on the path, to select both end nodes, then press the Add Nodes button (first on left) on the Node tool control bar a few times, to add many, many nodes
-- Extensions menu > Modify Path > Jitter nodes (you'll have to experiment to find the right settings that you need, to get the right amount of jitter)
If I'm not mistaken (I've always lived in land-locked states, and never bought a whole coconut either) coconuts have kind of a hairy surface, don't they? You can use Path menu > Path Effect > Stitch Sub-Paths, to draw something like long human hair. I'm not sure if it would work for a coconut. But here are the instructions (in the manual) http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... Paths.html
3 -- Here's kind of a poster showing what each filter looks like. (they often don't look like their name, and there are so many these days, it takes a long time to try them all one at a time) (that page take a while to load, since there are so many filters) There really aren't any good filters for wood and marble, in my opinion - one of each, and not very flexible. But here's a tutorial on how to draw a wood texture. It's might be a little hard to follow, but be sure to download the SVG files, and you can look in the file to see how they did it. https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/ind ... article=26
I can't think of any tutorials for marble right now... Could be there are so many different kinds of marble, it would just take a lot of work to write tutorials for all the different kinds. If you're brave, you could try to make your own filter. Here's a tutorial for making filters: http://tavmjong.free.fr/blog/?m=201509 And I'm not sure if Lazur's series is finished yet, but here's some more info on filters: http://iterativeideasinventory.blogspot ... rials.html
