Recovering a Path Stroke

Postby pinman » Sun Dec 10, 2017 4:15 am

If I create a circle and put text on the path, I generally have to rotate/flip the circle until I get the text to where I want it. When that is complete I select the circle, go to Fill and Stroke, select stroke paint, and then click the delete paint. That leave the text along the path without showing the circle path.

How can I recover the stroke on the circle path? At this point I can only select the text, and the circle is gone.

What I need to do is select that circle and rotate it further as the text reaches the end and disappears when using alt-arrow.

I realize that it's easy to do the first time until the stroke paint is deleted, but I am modifying existing designs and don't want to reinvent the wheel.

Any help appreciated.

You can use the 'objects' dialog and look for your circle there (Object > Objects) or you can switch to outline mode (View -> Display Mode -> Outline)

I have found I can reveal paths, click on stroke and a solid color, and restore the outline of a circle that I used to put text on its path. What I want to do is rotate that path 90 degrees CW because if I alt-arrow the text to the left, is starts disappearing. I would normally just select the path and rotate it an additional 90 degrees CW, but the only way I can get to it is by either selecting the path under objects or use the "edit paths by node" picker. I can then use the select arrow but it will not rotate by clicking the 90 degree CW button. The items are all grouped at multiple levels and if I ungroup them, it skews off all the text.
Is there a way to select an object (a path) within a grouping and have just that object rotate, taking the text 90 degrees CW as well so I can get more latitude or do I have to unpath the text, draw a new circle, put the text on the path, select the path and rotate it?
I know the latter will work but since I do this a lot I would like to find a solution to the original problem. I may have the terminology incorrect but hopefully I explained it enough. Thx!

You might try Ctrl+left-click. It should select through nested group levels.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

So I tried the Crtl-Left-Click and it rotated the circle. However the text was not going with it.
I also did a Shift Click on the text selecting both text and circle, and they rotated together.
Thanks - now I have a work around.

What got me stuck was if I had an ungrouped circle and put text on the path, I then click on the circle and was able to use the 90 degree button to turn the circle and the text followed. After grouping I was unable to replicate.

If I did a shift click on the text and circle, and then hit the 90 degree button, the text went off in left field.

It's great to learn :)

I always felt something is missing right here, Nope! I just didn't know it. Thank You Pinman!
