Hi guys,
I am a casual user of inkscape and use it to design posters, banners and flyers for my retail store. I have finished a banner and I'm having problems with saving the file as a pdf. Basicall what is happening is that my logo and a box, that both have the drop shadow filter applied to them, disappear from the pdf file that is saved. If uncheck the rasterize filters box when saving, the images are there in the pdf, obviously without the shadow... If I remove the filters from each of the images then the pdf saves correctly. So the issue is obviously withe filter rasterization.
What options do I have to remedy this?

Re: images with filters applied disappear on pdf export
seems to work for me. Can you tell us what version of Inkscape u r using? Is it possible for you to upload a sample svg for us to inspect? At one time I seem to recall that if the background was set to be transparent Pdf export of filters was a problem. Try setting your bkground to opaque (doc properties) and export again.
Your mind is what you think it is.
Re: images with filters applied disappear on pdf export
I'll try that first, then if i have no luck i'll post the svg.. Thanks..
Re: images with filters applied disappear on pdf export
I cant seem to attach the svg - it just times out. The svg is 25mb. Does this seem about right? The canvas size is .8 x 1.8 meters...
Re: images with filters applied disappear on pdf export
I just tested a new .svg file with a simple white box and a drop shadow filter. This worked perfectly to there must be some kind of file corruption on my project?
Re: images with filters applied disappear on pdf export
So I just created anew file from scratch and remade the entire banner from scratch. SAME PROBLEM!.....
But all may not be lost...... I may have found a work around!
When you print in Inkscape it gives you the option of print preview. This opens Preview with a pdf. So is the pdf in any way compromised compared to a saved pdf?

Re: images with filters applied disappear on pdf export
25 mb is an exceptionally large doc for Inkscape, and probably exceeds the maximum uploadable file size for this forum. I don't really know what the maximum size is, but I'm sure that's why you can't upload it, as opposed to being corrupted. Although some kind of corruption could explain the issue with filters/PDF. Well, the large size could also be affecting the conversion, theoretically.
But where do you find a Print Preview in Inkscape? I don't have such an option on my 0.48.1! However, I have never set up a printer for this computer. Perhaps the preview option is only available if you have a printer attached?? I guess I can't speak to the print preview, at least unless I can see the PDF that it produces.
You could upload the original SVG elsewhere though, and give us a link
