Dealing with missing LaTeX symbols

Postby robolith » Wed Apr 30, 2014 3:08 am

I'm using Matlab to generate vectorized eps/pdf-figures containing LaTeX text. When I import these into Inkscape for editing, certain symbols disappear but are visible when opened with Evince or Acrobat.

Am I missing a module or should I change some setting? Is this a bug?

Attached comparison to show the problem.

Cheers,
robolith

Hello:
- Can you see those simbols when you put outline mode?
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... utlineMode

- Are you exporting those Mathlab graphics in SVG format?. Related to that, can you see those symbols using firefox or Chrome?

- I guess that the type of font for those objects can't be recognized by Inkscape. In that case try to select only those symbols an convert it to path with the Object-to-path command in the path menu (or Shift + Ctrl + C).

It could help if you upload the problematic SVG here in the forum.

If you have problems:
1.- Post a sample (or samples) of your file please.

Hi hulf,

Good idea, but no, the result is the same in outline mode.

I'm exporting from Matlab as color EPS, neither Firefox nor Chrome can natively display EPS-files afaik. I've attempted to export as SVG from Matlab, but this requires 3rd party code and introduced a whole new range of problems.

Thought about it. However the symbols just aren't there. Every other block of text gets a text box, but these symbols do not, so I can not convert to path.

It could help if you upload the problematic SVG here in the forum.

Done (in a zip-file), though it's not an SVG, it's an EPS.

Hello,
I'm not happy with this solution but I couldn'f find other:
Please check these:
http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?93940-Inscape-EPS-to-SVG
http://www.pstoedit.net/
http://www.helga-glunz.homepage.t-online.de/plugins/
http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/gsview/

I tried with your file, and it Worked... more or less.

From GSview, go to Edit>Convert to vector format. Then select input file, output format and settings, and presto!

Also you have to choose: Convert text to polygons. The text is converted to paths. So you will have to edit them as paths

The font and the symbols appears. But the colors are completely changed. Maybe is because you have to have the license key of the plugin, I don't know. You will have to combine the converted text with the EPS converted byInkscape.

I'm attaching the resulting file
