I've been using Inkscape for about a year and a half. Love the program!

After upgrading from .47 to .48.0-1 some features are not working. They mainly have to do with help and extensions. My machine is running XP SP2.

Areas not working in the help section

Program no longer links to manual ( it does link to the tutorials)
If I click "Keys and Mouse reference" a small box appears on screen which quickly disappears. Nothing else happens.
Same if I click Ask us a question, Command line option, FAQ, New in this version, Report a bug or SVG 1.1 Specification.

Problems with extentions

I'm having similar problems with some of the extensions. Some of them work and some don't.
The one thing that I would really like to be able to use is the image slicer but when I use the "create a slicer rectangle" nothing seems to happen. I followed the section in the Inkscape 0.48 Essentials for Web Designers book very carefully a few times but I can't get it to work. After entering in everything in the text boxes and pressing "Apply" nothing seems to happen. I am able to create slices using a method similar to a tutorial by HeathenX but I would love it if I could use this tool.

Could this have something to do with Python on Windows? From what I've read Python should be installed as part of the download.

Regarding the Help menu items, I know that the manual requires an internet connection. And if I'm not mistaken, all those you listed are accessed on the internet. Is your intenet connection active and available when you try to access those items?

I've never used the Web slicer extension, but I wonder if it also requires the internet connection? If that's not the problem, I'll have to bow out, and let someone else handle it. Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with how extensions work.

I'm able to view the manual at http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/ so that's not too big a deal. I know that I had to go through some kind of process to get ver .47 to link to the manual but I can't seem to find the info on how to do it anymore.

I found a great keyboard shortcut map at http://www.openclipart.org/people/vwanw ... Layout.svg which solves that problem. I've downloaded it and will be keeping that open on my left-hand monitor for a while until I memorize them all. It's really helpful!I had memorized a lot of the shortcuts but this helps fill in the gaps.

I will do some more searching and see if I can find sources for the other things on line. I did search the forums before I posted this.

So.... the biggest thing would be figuring out how to get the web slice feature to work.

Sorry, I realized I didn't answer your question. I'm on a high-speed connection and am usually connected if my computer is on.
