So, I have one Green fairly simple shape overlapping one White fairly simple shape. I select both, and use CTRL-(hyphen), and nothing happens. I try again, using the pulldown menu, and nothing continues happening. The same for trying to use Division and Exclusion. Neither shape seems to be modified. Occasionally, somethng that needs to be Cut will get Cut, but most of the time, the shapes don't get modified. This has been going on for at least a month (I honestly don't pay much attention to when I update my software, unfortunately).
I'm using Inkscape 0.91 r13725
Windows 8.1
Path issues (cutting, dividing, intersecting)
Re: Path issues (cutting, dividing, intersecting)
Hello,
I'm talking directly of my mind, but you have to be aware that for using the boolean operations, the objects must be path, not groups or special objects (like spiral, star, rectangle ,ellipses,... those). In some cases the pahts have to be closed ones. Also, chek if your paths have special live path effects applied... or maybe filters??
If you could share a sample svg file or a screenshot of your situation, more help could come
Greetings

Re: Path issues (cutting, dividing, intersecting)
The object on the left is what I started with. The demi sun needed to be trimmed down to fit within the shield, which I did by hand, as shown on the right side. The left side is a separate layer from the right side.
They are pathed objects (and not imported objects, images, etc), with nodes and bezier lines and all that fun stuff. They are closed objects (because I'm hyper-anal about that), and single-item objects at that (as opposed to grouped objects). I don't apply filters or effects - I'm doing basic heraldry stuff, so there's NO special effects at all. Or at least, there shouldn't be.

Re: Path issues (cutting, dividing, intersecting)
The yellow shield is a Group of 1. Ungroup it, and the path operations will work fine
