Hi everyone, I did a search but couldn't find anything useful.
How do I save a Logo created in Inkscape as a PNG file with transparency? All my PNGs created in Inkscape have a white background! Thanks.

Hi Photographer,

Welcome to InkscapeForum!
Hhhmm.....
your search must have gone wrong somewhere. Please see the tutorial offered in this topic: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6616. The very first sentence will answer your question!
(i.e. - nothing needs to be done when exporting to PNG, the background is automatically transparent, unless you had changed it in Document Properties previous to exporting)
All best

See earlier answer(s) to the same question, e.g. Re: Transparency with PNG and Trimming.

brynn - maybe you might consider providing the hint (use 'File > Export bitmap' instead of saving as "Cairo PNG") in the forum topic itself (I assume you only updated the tutorial in the PDF file, which won't help when searching for quick answers in the forum).

You saved me! Thanks!

Re: How to set transparency when saving to PNG?
Oh, good catch ~suv!
The info about Export Bitmap vs Cairo PNG is in the 3rd paragraph of the PDF tutorial. (I added that info to update the tutorial, after your helpful comment in the other topic that you referenced.)
I actually did try to use a longer title, but there's a character limit for the title, so I don't think such a hint would fit in the title. microUgly actually wanted me to type the tutorial directly into the topic (to facilitate search results). But I wanted to use PDF, so people could save it for use offline. And I didn't want to type the whole thing again (and upload and insert images, etc.), as it's somewhat of a long tutorial. I suppose in retrospect, that the tutorial covers such a lot info, it might have been better split into 2 or maybe even 3 tutorials. But there is such a lot of overlap of the info, because of new users' confusion over terminology, and I wanted to have it all in one place, for convenience of new users.
Plus, I thought the title of the topic ("Transparent Background, Cropping (or Rendering) in Inkscape") should cover any search for "transparent background".
But I have added a quick tip to the text of the message. Thank you ~suv, for your suggestions about the Cairo PNG issue for my tutorial and for the topic

I personally find that countless numbers of tutorials which cover individually many very limited topics (such as used in OpenOffice documentation) to be less than helpful. So yes, a personal choice, but I was who was writing it, lol! (micro didn't ask me, it was just something I wanted to do....after I finished is when he asked me to type it into the topic.)Plus, I thought the title of the topic ("Transparent Background, Cropping (or Rendering) in Inkscape") should cover any search for "transparent background".
