Bounded area?
Hi, total newb here. I am trying to make a simple header image, 960X125. I made a work window, entered text but I can not fill the background in black. I made another layer and named it "back", still cannot fill it. I keep getting the message "Area is not bounded, can not fill".....WT?.......I read the tutorial but it is not very clear on the bounded thing in MHO. Thanks for the help guys and gals -John

Welcome John!
When you say you made a "work window", do you mean with the Text tool? If so, then no, that's not fillable. It might not even be necessary, although I don't know all the requirements of your project. You can also just click and type (then move if necessary)
.If you drew the rectangle with the text tool, as I said, it's not fillable. You'll have to draw a rectagle, either with the Rectangle tool, or draw a rectangular path with the Pen tool (use a grid and snap nodes to it, to work well on the internet). Then you can fill the rectangle, either from palette at bottom of page, or a custom color using Fill and Stroke dialog.
If you already drew a rectangle and you got that message, it means that your path isn't closed. Sometimes you have to zoom in to see the gap. And if you're working in the default document (i.e. - you opened Inkscape and started drawing) you're working at 35% zoom, where it's really hard to see and make connections. That was actually my first problem when I started learning Inkscape!

So you did draw a rectangle (with this tool

or Node tool 
when you click to apply the color?

My advice would be to not use the tool, as it is not really designed for the job that you think it is. ( see this: http://inkscape.org/screenshots/gallery ... bucket.png ).
