File Conversion Tutorial

Postby karto2k » Tue Jun 17, 2008 10:17 pm

Where can I find a good tutorial for converting jpg/bmp to vector using Inkscape?

I have some line drawings that I want to scale up, but they pixelize horribly so I figure if I convert them to vector first, I can make them as big as I want.

Here is example:

I want to be able to enlarge several pictures like this to desktop wallpaper size with as little pixelization as possible.

Thanks,
Rod

It is a manual, not a tutorial, but RTFM never hurts :-)

As the whole procedure is pretty straightforward, you might want to simply drag and drop the image into Inkscape and then click Path -> Trace Bitmap.

You can also try http://vectormagic.com/ which is now a commercial product but they give you a free trial and it often does a better job.
