I've never installed an extension for Inkscape before, so I've been googling for instructions. Everything I see says to copy the extension files into \Inkscape\share\extensions, but I can't find this anywhere. I can't find my Inkscape installation at all. It's clearly installed, because I can use it! But I can't find it. I've tried running a search of my hard drive, but the only thing that comes up is the folder where I first downloaded the installer - and the actual EXE file in \Program Files(x86). It's not in a folder in that directory; just the actual executable itself is directly in that folder. So I can't figure out how to install the extension!
I would hugely appreciate any help you can offer, as I'm trying to get a project done for my daughter's birthday party!
I'm on Windows 7, by the way.
Trouble installing extension
Re: Trouble installing extension
Hello
As you describe, it's strange. Do you can't see ANY directory in "Program Files (x86)"? Maybe in "windows explorer" there is an option to hide directories of the system
If you have the icon of Inkscape's executable in your desktop go and do rigt click on this. In the next menu go to properties. The first tab must have a textbox which should say the source of the executable

If you have problems:
1.- Post a sample (or samples) of your file please.
2.- Please check here:

Re: Trouble installing extension
Hi
'Installing' extensions in the Inkscape install directory is a bad idea.
It is much better to copy them to the inkscape user directory.
That way the extensions will 'survive' reinstall of inkscape without you having to worry about backing them up before the reinstall.
On my Win7 system my extension directory is; C:\Users\Ragnar\AppData\Roaming\inkscape\extensions\
On my system there are two directories for programs; C:\Program Files (x86) and C:\Program Files.
I don't install Inkscape to either - I use c:\Graphics\Inkscape, reason for this - see this post;

Re: Trouble installing extension
It was in the Program Files (x86) after all. Apparently the folders there were sorted weird - they appeared to be sorted alphabetically by name but it turns out there was another "set" of files down below. (The folder really didn't show up in a search, though. I guess because it's a system file.) Hulf's tip to right-click the executable and check its properties enabled me to locate it. Thank you!
