Color Management Nightmare

Postby Jakobud » Sun Mar 10, 2013 6:46 am

We recently got a new Printer, a Canon Pixma MX892. We are having a really hard time getting colors to print out properly via Inkscape. I know it's gotta be something to do with Color Management, but we absolutely cannot figure out the right combination of settings to get things to match up correctly. Here are some screenshots:

This is the test image we are trying to print.

This is what prints out. Blue is purplish. Cyan is Blue.

Can anyone shed some light on what settings we need to be using? We didn't have this problem with our old printer (HP OfficeJet).

Welcome to InkscapeManual!

Well, as I often do, I was going to suggest the manual. But the manual is shockingly brief on the subject:

There's a little more here, but it's precious little. http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... utes-Color On that page, the "ICC" text link and "Little CMS" text link may lead you to more info?

Maybe someone else knows a better resource on that?

I'd like to hear the answer on this too, as I also have a Canon Pixma, different/older model, but I love the printer. Actually, I remember hearing several yrs ago that others have the same issue, so I doubt it's just the Canon's or just the Pixma's.
to be honest, I usually print it, then change color in Inkscape to get the desired effect if it's something to be printed.... it can really be a pain.
hope there's an answer that works out there.

I am struggling with this as well. We are using a Universal Laser System engraver that has some tight color requirements for keying power, speed and other aspects of engraving. It appears that Inkscape color corrections are being applied even when none is selected. In my case I think that the key is finding an ICC color profile that is neutral so far as color corrections. I would suspect the solution for the other posters on the Pixma printers is to find a color profile file for the specific printer you are using. Does anyone know of any other resources (other than the previously mentioned ones) that cover this Inkscape topic?
