Few thoughts to consider:
1. I think you should use Dia instead of Inkscape unless you have a really simple circuit schematic to draw, one time work.
2. If you insist on using Inkscape - IMO you should NOT push toward actually connecting elements e.g. connecting nodes using the node tool. I think it's easier in general for such work to have elements disconnected and to use grouping and combining instead.
