I am trying to create a cut out of a vector, but when I click on it, it selects all off vector points, including the persons face.
When I try to vector the persons face it cuts out the eyes, nose, etc....
How do I just cut out the edge?
Any help would be appreciated, thx
Vector only the outline ?
Re: Vector only the outline ?

Welcome to InkscapeForum!
I think we might need some more info, before we can answer. But I'll give it a try. It sounds like you're using one of those cutter machines? The way I understand it, they cut along paths. So if it's cutting out things you don't want, then I assume you would just remove those paths.
Or else, I don't know if there is some way you can tell the machine what to cut and what not to cut.
Actually, I'll be moving your topic to our Cutters/Plotters forum, where people who are more familiar can see it, and hopefully give you a better answer. You might want to look around in that forum as well. Maybe you'll find some helpful info

How do I remove the paths?
I have tried to delete certain nodes, but it deletes parts of the raster image, which I want to keep.

Hhhmmmm.....
I was confused by your original message, so that might not be the right answer.
Ok, a raster image will not have any nodes. Can you show us your SVG file? You can attach it to your next reply. Then we can download, and understand better how to help. Look below Submit button for Upload attachment tab, then follow the prompts.

Re: Vector only the outline ?
Hi,
I think that I have figured that out for now... however, I have another issue. I have download some free vector images online, but it seems as though they are too big for Inkscape to open (25 mb) ... .any ideas?

Re: Vector only the outline ?
Do you mean ONE 25 mb image, or all of them together are 25 mb? Is it one large SVG file? Or is it perhaps zipped? If it's zipped, then unzip (extract) it. Then you should be able to open individual images.

Re: Vector only the outline ?
Gosh, I don't know!
When you try to open with Inkscape, does it give you any error messages? Or does it just not open? If there are no error messages, try this -- open Inkscape, then click to open the file, then wait. Wait at least 5 minutes, if you haven't already. And maybe even wait 10 minutes, because what have you got to lose at this point, but 10 minutes, right?
What kind of memory do you have on your computer? Or really I mean how much. If you have less than 2 gb RAM, you probably won't be successful. If you have 4 gb or more, it might eventually open. I'm just guessing about all of this, btw. Or if you don't have much RAM, maybe you could borrow a computer with more RAM to try and open it?
If you are successful opening it, start selecting each image, one at a time, and saving each as a separate file.
If you can't get it open by any means, I'm thinking there may be some way of separating the images using the code/XML. I couldn't tell you what that might be, but it seems possible that one could look at the code (in a text editor, I suppose) and see each individual file. And it seems possible to me that one could copy/paste each individual file to a new one, and then be able to open them individually in the Inkscape gui. Note that I'm still guessing
Or maybe you could go back to the site where you downloaded, and look to see if they are available either separately, or in smaller packages?
Or maybe someone else has a better idea?
