Saving SVG into EMF to use in Bernina Embroidery Software

Postby sntmac » Sun Sep 13, 2015 1:03 pm

]I watched this youtube video on how to convert an SVG file from say, Google, into Inkscape and saving it as an EMF file that can then be opened in EMF format into art canvas on the Bernina software. Here is the 5:00 video.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZoCJVQ ... ACBg2Hp9t9

I found a rainbow image that was a free svg download. I opened it up inkscape and followed the instructions in the video. When I got to it as an EMF file the following box pops up with the following boxes automatically checked:

Then when I import it into my Bernina Emboridery Software(v6), It looks like this:

Can anyone tell me why it's making the colors "run" in streaks? In the youtube video I referenced above clearly did not happen. :) I am sure it is user error as I have no experience in Inkscape but I have tried playing with various combinations of checked and unchecked options and still get the streaked colors effect. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Likely the Bernina software documentation, or support from them, will be more helpful to you, than we can be. We have no idea how that software works, or what kind of EMF file it can use. (unless one of our members happens to use that software) Maybe you could contact the author of the tutorial, through YouTube?

As far as converting the SVG to EMF, I don't think you should need any of the unchecked boxes checked or the checked ones unchecked. You could probably either check them all or uncheck them all, and it will make no difference, for that image (unless there is some text that we can't see).

As far as I can tell, the problem is about how the Bernina software is handling the EMF file. Or it might possibly be about how Inkscape converts the SVG to EMF. But it's nothing to do with checking those boxes, as far as I can tell. Although I could be wrong, since I know so little about that software.

If it were me, I'd try to contact the tutorial author, who obviously knows something about this. Doesn't YT provide a way for members to contact or message each other?

Edit
Or maybe the Bernina software will accept some other file format?

It could be helpful to see the original svg file and the resulting EMF... maybe the OP could attach them to a post?

I don't have the Bernina s/w, but it might require all figures be paths. The arcs in the rainbow might be objects rather than paths.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Yeah, that crossed my mind too. But that's the part that actually appears to be working, when imported into the B sw. (Although, emphasis on "appears" since I've never seen this software before.)

It could be a million things....well, at least 100. Maybe it only works with strokes, and maybe the black part is wide strokes. Or maybe it's the gaps between the color and the black that's throwing off the sw recognizing it. Or maybe they are too wide. Or maybe the colors are portions of a circle, and not paths (although they do look for all the world like paths. They look like they could have been made with Inkscape's Paint Bucket tool.) Maybe it has something to do with the page border, since it does not appear to be entirely inside the page in Inkscape. And maybe not in B either? But we just can't tell.

If we had the SVG and the EMF files, we could make better guesses. But they would still be guesses.

I don't suppose the software is free? If it's free, I wouldn't mind downloading.....although whether I could install it without other embroidery machine software, I don't know.

Actually it might help to post this in Inkscape for Cutting Design forum. It's for using Inkscape with digitual cutting soft and hardware. It's not exactly the same thing, but it is the same theory or concept as with the cutters. I recently took over ownership, and am trying to revive it. It's more or less on life support, but some old members still visit a couple times weekly. They might have heard about this software, or know of a forum for it. They are some crafty people

Another idea -- search YouTube or the whole internet, for more tutorials, or even a forum.
