Question about triangulation

Postby Estebanus » Mon Nov 02, 2015 3:02 am

Hello, I am trying to triangulate a large image based on grey levels. I was using http://snorpey.github.io/triangulation/ until now, but it can't generate the number of points that I would like. Is there a way to do that with Inkscape without manually adding every single point? I'm looking for around 200,000 triangles generated based on the colors of the image.

No, I don't think so, the Voronoi extension is all we have currently. You can, of course, extend and modify that extension :)

If only I had the knowledge to do that... I'm really just starting to get to know Inkscape and I'm no programmer. Anyway, thank you for the reply! It seems I will have to keep messing around with tracing the image until I get the results I'm looking for. :)

Have you tried the Voronoi extension as it is? It might get you closer than tracing. Although I'm not sure what you mean by "tracing". Do you mean tracing by hand?

Or possibly Tiled Clones, using the Trace tab? Here's the manual info. http://d3js.org/ And it may also be beyond your reach.

Could you use the snorpey tool, but only do half, or 1/4 of the image at a time? And then put them back together afterwards?

(I think Estebanus already knows about Voronoi, but is looking for a way to auto-create the dots that it needs to work)

The 'tiled clones' can trace a drawing (last tab), and make the presence of clones (dots) dependent upon the color below, but it's too regular for this purpose, AFAIU.

Maybe so. But I try to reach/stretch to find a solution. Sometimes it can lead to the light bulb :D
