another Inkscape forum (for cutters/plotters)

Postby brynn » Wed Sep 09, 2015 5:17 am

Hi Friends,
There has been another Inkscape forum, active since 2010, that not many people know about. Inkscape for Cutting Design It was originally set up to help people use Inkscape with the home/craft digital cutters (such as Cricut), because the software that was originally released with those machines wasn't very good.

Now those machines have much better software, and people don't need Inkscape to do their projects. That forum had been looking for a new admin, and was about to be closed down. And except for some of its original members wanting to preserve the great tutorials which it contains, it almost was. I offered to take over, and keep it available for them. And if that's all that ever becomes of it, I'm happy to help.

However, it seems to me like the use of Inkscape for (what I call) the more industrial type of cutters/plotters, such as CNC and laser cutters, is still growing. So maybe that forum can find a new use -- to help people use Inkscape for those types of cutters. I know I see messages here, from people trying to use inkscape with their CNC router, or laser cutter. Anyway, we'll see what happens.

Meanwhile, I'll be looking for tutorials for using Inkscape with those machines. If anyone knows of any, or is interested in writing any, please let me know ;)

All best :D

There is also a project called inkcut. http://inkcut.sourceforge.net/ \
Inkcut is a free program for cutting vinyl and plotting vectors in ubuntu linux. Inkcut sends HPGL directly to a vinyl cutter or plotter via a serial or printer connection. It is free and easy to install and use and it currently is implemented as an extension for the Inkscape SVG editor.
copied the previous from the webpage mentioned above.
I used it for a small period but i deal with problems, probably with the hardware, so for time being i am away from it.
