How can I print the background please?

Postby glitterbomb » Mon Feb 09, 2015 11:04 pm

Hi,
I am relatively new to Inkscape and generally use it to resize and print. My image is usually dark text printed on white - pretty standard. Now I want to change the font to white and display on a dark background. I have done this on screen by changing the whole page background (because that's what I want) but obviously this is not correct because when I print or save as a pdf the background is not saving with it so I just get a blank page (as the text is white).

Is it possible within inkscape? Help please? (please keep it simple!) :=)

Hi.

Draw a rectangle - snapping to page corners.
Set fill of rectangle to black ( Shift Ctrl F )

Type the text.
With text selected set the fill to white.

Example;
SVG Image
(You can save this SVG file and open in your own Inkscape -
right-click the image (Above) and use "Save Image As" ).

Good Luck.

Thank you Ragnar but not quite as simple I don't think? My image is a wordcloud which is saved as an SVG so not just adding text. So I have selected and grouped all the words to make it one object. I have done as you suggested and created a rectangle but I don't seem to be able to put the word cloud on top of it? usually I would send it forward or back but can't see that option? Thank you so much, Steph

To get "correct" answers you have to ask the right question, this is different than the first post! :D

After selecting the "word-cloud" press Page-Up (repeatedly) to change the Z-order of the objects.

If no success please upload your SVG file.

Yes apologies Ragnar, this works thank you. One more for you then - can I increase the DPI when I'm saving as a PNG? I usually save to PNG but if I send off for printing rather than printing myself I usually get a low res warning.

^^^ Best to Export Bitmap rather than save-as... the export dialogue will offer resolution options.

It seems the font in the above SVG example is MV Boli, a font which many users might find the character set incomplete.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Hi

Yes, it's very easy to change the DPI as you export to PNG.

On the export dialog just specify the DPI in the value-box.

Good Luck.

Sorry about that, it was just the last used font in Inkscape when making the example - will pay "more attention" to this in the future!
