Alice - snapshots

Postby microUgly » Fri Jul 06, 2007 10:54 pm

I semi started this a long time ago, and now I'm starting to start again :)

The original pencils are by renecordova. For some reason he deleted almost all his gallery so you can't find the pencils anymore.

The first image is created using trace bitmap. The second is the colour (duh) but I posted the outlines so you can see how I've used clips.

I use the development build of Inkscape with the paint bucket tool. I use the paint bucket tool to easily fill an area but then I use that shape to clip a rectangle. The rectangles has the flat colour you seen in the second pick. I do this so I can easily enter the clip and add more shapes to create shading and lighting effects without having to worry about 'staying between the lines'. From this point onwards, colouring should be easy and fun.

Looks nice, interesting technique using the flood fills as clip masks.
Really wishing I'd seen that guys site before he got rid of his pencils, really like his style.

He is still adding new work. He just purged all his old work. Very mysterious :) But his gallery is still worth keeping an eye on. I was fortunate enought to grab a couple of pencils I would like to colour before they were removed.

The next step. I've simply changed the flat colours to gradients. Simple application of gradients can really bring a pic to life. I'm not finished yet though.

Hmm... Why is her body tanned but not her legs? 8-) Looks kinda strange to me, body and legs having different colours.

Shes wearing stockins, they'd normally be different color to her skin...

Unfortunately I've got myself stuck. I wanted to add lighting effects but I haven't been able to make it work as well as I would like. I'm hoping the blend filters in the new Inkscape version will help create convincing lighting colours.

After an excessive break, I've finally come back to this colouring.

I think I've nailed the lighting and colouring I was after. I just need to add more pink and improve the shape of the pink light on her hair and it's pretty much done. I would appreciate any criticisms.
