Subdividing a path

Postby MrProsser » Tue Nov 10, 2015 7:04 pm

I have not been using Inkscape for very long, so perhaps the answer to this is very easy. I was looking at a simple Illustrator tutorial
http://blog.spoongraphics.co.uk/tutoria ... lustration

where they use the Pen tool to create an outline for a mountain, and then add lines inside this shape, to break it into smaller segments, to create a low poly look. I was wondering if this is possible in Inkscape. I decided to give it at try, drew a path using the Pen tool, but could not figure out a method for adding new segments to create subdivisions of the object. If there is no method analogous to how it can be done in Illustrator, how would one approach doing something similar with Inkscape?

Yes, that can be done with Inkscape. First, here's a tutorial for creating this "low poly art" (whatever that means??) http://goinkscape.com/low-poly-art-tuto ... -inkscape/

But that Inkscape tutorial uses an extension and photo, and the Illustrator tutorial is doing it a different way -- a very different way. But Inkscape can do that too. Instead of divide, I think you'll need to use Path menu > Cut Path (make sure the paths are touching, for this to work). After that everything else is about the same - at least as far as drawing the basic mountain. I didn't read through to where he added the texture, but you can probably find an Inkscape filter to do that.

(Inkscape does have Path menu > Divide, but I'm not sure exactly what it does.)

I saw the Path menu > Divide option but likewise, did not know how to use it. I'll try using Cut Path and see what I can do with that. It is something I have never used either.
