Hello,
I am currently trying to colour a map (an elevation map, with several different shaded areas). There are some 'inland seas' which I traced onto the same layer as the continents, so when I try to fill them the same colour as the ocean, they are affected by the continents' colours.
Do I need to move these inland seas onto the ocean layer to get them the same colour, or is there another option?
Also, because this is a map and I'm working within a bounded area, is the only way to colour the ocean by drawing a rectangular in a separate layer below the continents?
Thanks.
Problem with maps and colouring
Re: Problem with maps and colouring
Hi.
There are always more than one way to "skin a cat".
One option might be to have a rectangular shape at the bottom layer with the ocean color filled in.
Every filled land map on top will be masking the ocean.
Good Luck.
Show us the results.

Will they mask the ocean by default?
A problem I'm facing is that, if I colour the land say brown and change the opacity slightly, the inland seas also change in opacity and become a slightly different colour from the ocean. I'm probably missing a very basic or obvious step...
Thanks.

Hi.
Subtract the inland lakes from the country shape first.
Think of doughnut where the "hole" is "missing" from the outside shape.
