Enlarged font size in Inkscape Ubuntu version

Postby oguzkaya » Sun Sep 30, 2012 4:12 am

Hi there,

I had this strange problem yesterday. I've been using Inkscape on WIndows for a while and designed a logo with that. When I moved that into my Ubuntu machine and opened it with Inkscape the text in the logo looked a lot larger than it was originally. I wonder what the problem might be.

Thanks for any help!

Either your Ubuntu installation doesn't have the identical font (+ style) installed which you assigned to the logo text on Windows (and Inkscape uses the fallback font to render the text), or you used the generic font name 'Sans' for the text -> see e.g. this earlier reply: Re: Text positioning different in Windows and Linux (summary: 'Sans' is a generic font name which on Windows falls back to 'Arial', on linux usually to 'DejaVu Sans', or 'Vera Bitstream Sans' (depending on fontconfig)). If you need a more detailed answer, please consider sharing a sample SVG file - else there is no way (besides guessing) to know what fonts are involved, and what might trigger the two font backends to render the text differently.
