My logo

Postby pilou » Wed Feb 26, 2014 8:36 am

Hello, i'm new to inkscape.
I've started to work on it three months ago when i wanted to design the logo of my futur company.
I used the image of a local monument and I stylised to obtain what you see.
After consideration, I made another drawing for my commercial stamp.
I'm requesting any observation/amelioration/advice on this work.
Thanks

Hi.

The highlight goes over the background, but it doesn't add for a good effect at all, you could get rid of it.
The lettering looks stretched, and doesn't have a clean look.
And with the pictorial part having such thin shape, the lettering would look better if placed next to it, not below.

For the stamp, be aware that the triangle shape in a circle, and red pentagrams are part of the common nwo/luciferian symbolism.

Tx Lazur,
I put the higlight because i tried to do a 3D-effect, I saw this trick in a tutorial for making a christmas tree. I have already done a flat design version of it.
For the lettering, I totally agree with you, I tried to increase the size to fill up better the space but i might have deform them.
And for the stamp, i didn't knew that one can refer to luciferian symbolism...after being told that it could refer to sh.t, you tell me this.
Here is the model i took:

Maybe i will have to check for another logo :(

Nice statue, didn't know it was in Yaoundé.
3D shading effect usually doesn't add to logos.
Logos are to persuade the heart and not the mind, so the cleaner it looks, the more likely it will be remembered.
In that logic, the more places it is placed at, it builds a closer relationship to the people (magic of repeat).
For example google's logo with letters in different colours is a "design no", but it does work as they are using it.

To remove the stretching of the lettering, try to open the xml editor and erase the transformation matrix, then scale proportionally the object with the select tool.

Would that be legible when printed on a pen?

I think not, like on smartphone i assume that the logo will be less identifiable.
That's why i was considering an alternative like a triangle for the small surface.

I made some changes after reading your observation.
I put back the good ratio for the letters and I use the "put on path" function to curve the text.
But now i see that because of the different orientation of the curving, the top text look more wide than the bottom.
Should I change the space beetwen the letter?
I can also see that the "L" and the "f" are not on the same line as the "a" and the "o" but this comes from the font. Is it a problem?
[edit] I also wonder about the space between the logo and the text now, it seems a little big now that the letter are back to their original shape.

Are you really sure that someone else wuold be able to recognize the monument, from your logo?

If so, why don`t you upload smaller (if not smallest possible) pictures of your logo, to test it?!

here in Cameroon, people often recognize it easily (specially this days with the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of reunification).
But if someone doesn't recognize it at first glance, it's not a big problem for me.

Here they are in small version

Here is a more "corporate stylised" version.

I would get rid of the stamp as it is, for the previous reason.
(aol logo for example)

Here is some modification after your comment.
I will make some try with the coloring, since red and black are too "big company, i'm looking for something more "oldy, traditionnal, raffinement"Image

Nice colours, and the proportions are much better between the symbol and the lettering then on the previous variations.
Personally I would tweak the image part's nodes a bit, for a more consistent look.

I can`t say I see much of a difference but if you`re not aiming for the resemblance with the acctual monument - this would work just fine.
Rounded one looks fine.
