[solved] No Path Effect Editor?
[solved] No Path Effect Editor?
Hey guys. I'm trying to change the width of my bezier lines and apparently I'm supposed to be able to do that with the path effect editor....except I don't have one. Lol. I have the "Path Effects...", but it only allows me to add an effect, and even when I have an effect in play, there is nothing allowing me to change the width. Anything called "editor" just doesn't come up. I've watched videos, and I can see what it's supposed to look like (the editor), but I just can't get it to come up, if I even have it. Any info would be awesome, thanks!
Re: No Path Effect Editor?
Oh, you found it -- that's it. I think they dropped the word "Editor" from the menu, because it makes it so long. If you're in version 0.91, it's automatically docked (along the right side of canvas). (Any dialog can be undocked, if you want to.) So it's not going to pop out as a separate little window. If you have an older version, occasionally I've heard where a dialog can open outside the screen area. If you can't find it docked, let us know, and we'll try to help you find it. If that happens, please tell us your operating system.
It depends how you've made the line/curve. If you drew it with the Pen/Bezier tool in Regular Path mode, with no Shape set (on the control bar), you will need to use the Path Effects editor, and add the Pattern Along Path effect. Then you can find the actual pattern, and edit the pattern to be wider. Or you could use the Power Stroke effect. That's puts a control node on the canvas, so you don't need to find the pattern to edit. Look for a pink node and drag it, to adjust the width. (For me it's very pale pink, and hard to notice (Windows). But from other comments I've seen, it's a bright pink and easy to see.)
If you had a shape set from the control bar, it depends which shape you used. Triangle In and Out create a power stroke automatically, without having to access the editor. (Find the pink node.) The Ellipse option still creates a pattern along path, where you have to find the pattern to edit. I guess the From Clipboard option also makes a pattern along path.
By the way, this is for version 0.91. There's no power stroke before 0.91. So if you have an older version, you can either upgrade, or just use Pattern Along Path in Path Effects editor. Oorrrr, there's also a PAP extension, but it's a little harder to use, in my experience.
(Sure will be nice when the manual gets updated to 0.91.) (I'm getting tired of waiting, and decided to be vocal about it

Re: No Path Effect Editor?
Hey Brynn - I'll definitely look out for these pink nodes. I had been trying for editing options to come up for the Spiro effect, as it seems editing options were coming up for every effect except for that one....But I'll have to play around some more. Thanks again for taking your time to reply

Re: No Path Effect Editor?
Hi I just downloaded 0.92.1 trying to do envelop deformation but i cant find path effect editor, please help thanks
Re: No Path Effect Editor?
It's near the bottom of the Path menu > Path Effects.....
I think a lot of people are thrown off because it doesn't say "Editor". Also, once it's open, you can't see the menu of LPEs unless a path is already selected. Click the blue plus sign.
