Layer invisible on export to PDF

Postby maf » Thu Oct 20, 2011 12:14 am

Hi,

I have a problem saving Inkscape documents in PDF format.

I have successfully used Inkscape to hide areas in PDF documents in the past. I did this by importing one page from a PDF documented into a new document, adding a layer on top, creating some rectangles above the areas I wanted to hide, and saving a copy as a new PDF document.

Unfortenately, I must have messed up something the last time I tried to follow that procedure, possibly when accidentily using the Fill and Stroke dialog in an ill-advised way: Now, only the added layer is visible in the resulting PDF document. This imported PDF is not. Actually, even when I save a PDF copy right after import, I get a blank page. In all cases, the contents of the PDF is visible on screen. I'm using Inkscape 0.48 on Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 bit.

Could somebody please enlighten me?

Thanks, maf

I just realized that the problem only occurs with PDF documents of scanned pages. Saving Inkscape documents as PDF that were created by importing "other" PDF documents still works fine.

So it seems I didn't mess up my Inkscape configuration. Rather, I guess Inkscape has problem exporting images created by importing PDF documents with embedded pixel images. Again: All contents are displayed on screen but the exported PDF is blank.

sounds like some nasty/quick hacking. you can annotate pdfs in adobe reader and save. or actually edit the pdf. hidden things don't always stay hidden.
it's absolutely outrageous how there's no reasonable cost pdf editor from adobe..only the whole expensive hog or nothing.
