Idea request: fuzzines in color transitions

Postby Uktrunie » Tue Jul 27, 2010 11:07 am

(I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask this, so feel free to delete this message if you think it should not be here)

Hello people.

I'm vectorizing the Spanish suited playing cards, and there it is, this big problem that is driving me crazy.

Take a look at this image:

Image

Note the "fuzziness" in the transition between red and yellow... I have no idea how to do that with vectors... and I'd like it to be only vectors.

I've tried different approaches, like creating multiple objects, applying gradient fills and then adding some blur... but it doesn't look good. I can't reproduce the effect. I understand that it won't look exactly like this, because it's a vector image... but I would like to achieve something similar...

Does anyone have a some ideas to do this? Suggestions?

Thanks for your time and help.

Bye.

Your best bet for getting a raster-like effect is using Filters, but that is a huge area. Maybe you can find what you need in the ready-made filters - http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... -ABCs.html there's a lot of pages, keep clicking on the right arrow to see them all.

Noisy Blur seems like a great one for your case, maybe Roughen.

You should also try the "Inkblot" filter, in the Textures sub-menu. Give your yellow splodge a gradient fill out to orange at the edges for extra effect, and an orange stroke of the right tone might also help to soften the transition at the edges. Here's my rough effort as a starting point - I'm sure some time spent tweaking it could get even closer to the original:
