How to catch this bug:
1). Take screenshot in windows (PrtScr).
2). Paste it into inkscape.
The resulting image is buggy. Its kinda hard to explain... Seems, last 3 columns of pixels of original picture appear as 3 first columns of resulting. Also there are 3 strange dots (colors are Red, Green and Blue) in left bottom corner.
How to avoid this bug:
1). Take screenshot in windows (PrtScr).
2). Paste it into irfanview.
3). Press "copy" in irfanview.
4). Paste into inkscape.
The resulting image is normal.
Here is example of this strange bug in attachment. There are 2 embedded images. Buggy image is atop of normal. You can see difference.
So, can someone confirm this bug? Is it known? Maybe there are some workarounds?

Re: PrtScr -> Paste bug (WinXP SP3)
I'll look at your image in a minute. But first, I'm curious what benefit it is to paste a screenshot into Inkscape? Most of the time, raster formats are preferred for this, because of IE's inability to display SVG format. Granted MS is now endeavoring to support SVG display. But it will still be a while before SVG format of screenshots can be of widespread use. Just curious
. And now I'm off to open your file

Re: PrtScr -> Paste bug (WinXP SP3)
Ok, yes, I see the problem in your file. But I cannont reproduce it with Inkscape 0.48 last stable, Windows 7, 64-bit.
What version of Inkscape are you using?
Maybe since this process uses the Prnt Scrn key, it's a keyboard issue? (Or maybe even computer brand issue?) Do you have any other snipping or screen capturing tool with which to compare?
Or maybe you're using a different Inkscape version than me??

I often use inkscape for creating "enhanced" screenshots - with comments, etc. for bug reports, feature requests and so on...

I'm using latest build (R9934) from here:
http://inkscape.modevia.com/win32/?M=D
But this problem is not new for this build. I don't remember if official 0.48 release was affected. Will test it out...

The thing is i don't want to use any capturing tools. I can use irfanview for screenshots, and, as stated before, resulting images are normal in inkscape. But i have to do many additional steps - this is bad...

And then you must convert to PNG? I make screenshots all the time, often with comments, emphasis, arrows, etc. But since I know I will have to convert to PNG, I just use GIMP, so I can skip the export.

I was just thinking for troubleshooting, to try and narrow down the source of the problem.
But i have to do many additional steps - this is bad...
But isn't exporting to PNG an extra step? Or for some reason, you need screenshots in SVG format?

Re: PrtScr -> Paste bug (WinXP SP3)
Exporting is not extra step, it's like saving in gimp or any other raster editor.
edit: just tested official 0.48 release - bug is here as well...

Re: PrtScr -> Paste bug (WinXP SP3)
I can confirm the same behaviour on my syste. (Also XP SP3).
It is an issue for print-screen and alt-printscreen.
Oddly enough, if I use a screencapture from Faststone (capture to clipboard) it pastes fine into inkscape
Also if I paste a screen capture into any other raster application it pastes fine into that other application.

It seems someone submitted this bug on launchpad. https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/693010 I hope it will be fixed ASAP.

That was me. Seemed worth reporting as it wasn't identified already in Launchpad.
Thanks to the posters here.
