For a modelling application, I want to produce some walls for a 1:48 scale building. I've used Inkscape before (for mapping) but haven't worked out how to produce a number of parallel lines within a rectangle to look like a wooden planked wall that I can laser cut/etch. Once I've drawn the first (etch) line inside the rectangle, is it possible to step and repeat more lines?

Re: How to draw many parallel lines within a box
Two ways come first to mind:
Tiled clones: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Tiles.html
This can make many from one
Interpolate: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... nterpolate
This makes many between two.

Have a nice day.

More exotic solution: Eggbot hatch fills: https://github.com/evil-mad/EggBot/tree ... ape_driver (for those who find this and are looking for a laser/cutter/plotter compatible way of doing this)

Thanks tylerdurden, have had a quick look (it's late here!) and will study more carefully shortly. Thanks also Moini, have had a look at the Eggbot approach but I need more time to understand it, so will come back to it later. All greatly appreciated.

Just thought of the simplest solution: what about patterns? In the Fill and stroke dialog, you can select a pattern fill, and there exist premade patterns for stripes: http://write.flossmanuals.net/start-wit ... a-pattern/

Re: How to draw many parallel lines within a box
I don't think the cutter would recognize the pattern as vector paths. Unless you mean to convert the pattern back to object first?
I think the simplest solution is
-- draw a line
-- duplicate
-- move (possibly snap to grid or guides)
-- duplicate
-- move
-- etc.
Not necessarily the fastest. Plus, if you're making several of these walls, you probably want consistent distance between lines. I would still probably use the same process, but use either a custom grid or guides for even spacing.
Is this a one time project, or do you make a lot of miniatures?

Re: How to draw many parallel lines within a box
brynn - good suggestion. I found that setting the grid to the 'plank width' made it very easy and quick to draw one line, copy and paste, snap to grid, do that a few times then copy a group of lines and repeat. Simple, when you've worked it out / been told! Thanks all for suggestions. This project is a small coal mine based on mines around Durango in Colorado. It's my first foray into model rly buildings using laser cutting but I have some other projects in mind after this one.

Here's the interpolate method:
