Well, after 30 minutes of using Inkscape it crash, EVERYTIME. I have lost my work over 3 times until now...
I really love Inkscape, but this is ridiculous.
Over 1gb ram consumption and then crash on W7...
Re: Over 1gb ram consumption and then crash on W7...
This is crap. I'm downloading Adobe Illustrator right now. I'm sure at least it doesn't crash every 30 minutes.
Re: Over 1gb ram consumption and then crash on W7...
And no, it doesn't auto-saved any document in my fu*** personal folder. Really I hate you all.

Re: Over 1gb ram consumption and then crash on W7...
I'm sorry you're having such a hard time tonight
You must know that it may sometimes take more than 15 minutes for email to reach its destination?
Actually we can't be blamed for Inkscape's performance. This is just a forum for Inkscape users. You might be interested to learn that Inkscape is Open Source software. The Auto-Save feature is new with the last stable release version 0.47, and may have some bugs. Although please note that I am not well-informed about the auto-save feature. You may wish to search this forum for other topics on this feature, since it has been discussed here. I'm sorry that I don't recall the resolution at the moment (I'd also have to search, to jog my memory).
Over 1 gig ram consumption can be common with certain uses of Inkscape. Please understand, again, that it is open source software (which is why it's free), and as well, continually under development. If you are working with a lot of gradients, filters, sometimes nodes, and maybe a couple of other issues, you may notice that Inkscape becomes very slow, as you have noticed the heavy RAM/CPU consumption. You must know that it is generally considered a good working practice in computer graphics....well, with computers period (
), to save your work frequently. In certain situations with Inkscape, it is a good practice to save your work practically after every click
(I do so whenever I work with filters and extensions) .
There are a few things you can do to avoid the heavy resource consumption and crashes. Try working with layers, and turn off (hide) layers that you aren't using at the moment. Also, try to work at the lowest possible zoom. If you have to wait more than 15 seconds (imo), don't continue to click, click, click. That will just bog down the system even more, and probably trigger a crash. You might let my 15 second rule be your clue that you need to try to break up the area you are working on into layers, and hide those you don't need at the moment.
If you can afford Adobe Illustrator, it sounds like that might suit your work process better than Inkscape. Although, we will always be here to help you with Inkscape, should you decide to stick with it.

Sorry for the things that I wrote, I was really angry =(
About the ram consumption, I don't think is a problem with the elements created, I mean, when I first open a large document the ram consumption is really normal, but it start to consume a lot more with the use :S. Also I think it may be a problem with the operative system, it doesn't seems to 'eat' ram in Ubuntu or Windows XP.
I know it's open source, thats one of the reasons I really like this program

I understand

Maybe there is an issue with Windows7? Both Inkscape 0.47 and Windows7 are fairly new, which means that Windows 7 may not have been heavily tested with 0.47. If you wanted to contribute your experience, or research the issue yourself, you could join the mailing list and/or search Launchpad. Please see this topic for info on how to reach both forums. Also, there's a way to read the mailing list archives, in leiu of joining the list, but I can't remember the name of the website. Maybe someone else can chime in with that website address....for that matter, maybe someone else can answer the Windows 7 issue?
