Looking for Constructive Criticism

Postby Nmorrison72 » Fri Sep 21, 2012 6:08 am

I'm making a fall timeline cover for facebook and was wondering if anyone has some constructive criticism before I upload it

(I would have posted the image but it cuts off)
Now that i look at it i forgot to change the color of the childs arms (ill start fixing that)

Ps. as for the clown part my profile pic is a picture of me when i was a kid dressed up like a clown.

I changed his arms and messed around a tad with him but had some trouble figuring out what you meant by adding shape. Thanks for your help art is something I've come to love and would love to get better at. :D

Welcome to the forum!

Awesome tree!
It's hard to make suggestions without knowing the context where it will be seen. Even though you said FB timeline, I really don't know what that means. There's a bit of a disconnect for me, between the gloriously detailed tree, and everything else, especially the basic stick figure child, but also the house. The tree has depth and fullness, while the house appears almost flat.

One thing that might help -- the straight lines on the roof of the house, I guess indicate shingles, or planks, or something? I see that you made the top and bottom of the roof with curved lines. That adds a lot of character, and a little depth, to the house and the image overall. I wonder if making those straight lines curved, like the top and bottom edges, would help with the flatness. And the same with the windows and door, give them a little of the same character. Oh, and also the edge of the roof on the back side of the house -- I wonder if it should show planks, or whatever too? Maybe not, but you could try and see how it looks. Also, the bricks of the chimney are horizontal. Maybe if they were angled a little on each face, it would give more depth?

Out of curiosity, what's the dark green square on the left? I'm not very good at drawing human figures, so I'm not sure what to suggest about the stick figure child. Maybe you could bend the knees, or maybe add some hair?
