using Shift to disable snapping draws out handles

Postby brynn » Tue Jun 01, 2010 1:48 am

Hi Friends and dvlierop,
Whenever I use Shift to temporarily disable snapping of any type of node which has it's handles retracted, instead of disabling snapping, it draws out the handles. Is there some way to stop the handles from being pulled out, and still disable snapping?
Off topic:
PS - dvlierop, how do you magically know when someone has posted a topic about snapping? From time to time, I find the need to be notified upon the posting of certain topics. I've noticed someone in another forum who just seems to magically visit the forum, only when a topic of their interest is posted. I've just never learned how it's done. Would you please tell me how to do it?

Thank you very much :D

Have you tried first clicking and moving the node and only then hit the Shift?

Yes. At the moment the Shift key is pressed, the node stops moving and the handle is extended.

This is 0.47 Inkscape, the last stable release, on Windows 7, fully updated (64-bit)...if it matters.

Hello Brynn!

At the right end of the toolbar there is an icon for disabling and enabling the display of node handles. I have found this useful in the situation you describe as well as when trying to move nodes in high density areas where clicking on a node picks a handle. Hope it works for you.
Your mind is what you think it is.

It happens to me too in 0.47 but not in dev builds. I guess you can treat it as fixed.

Don't know how he does it, but you can use yahoo pipes to grab the feed from here, apply a filter (like content>content contains "snap") and publish that as a new RSS feed you can pull into your feed reader. (Assuming you are a feed reader kind of person!) If you don't use a feed reader, you can subscribe to the feed using notify.me and get an email when the feed updates.

Thanks Rob!

Oops, sorry druban, somehow I missed your message earlier. I had misunderstood that button. For some reason, I thought it was just to retract all the handles at once, but that you could still pull them out one by one using Shift.

Anyway, thanks, that will be nice to use until the next stable release.

You just click your name, and the evidence is in your profile. It's really only 6.2%...

You can also click "Members" at the top of the page and sorts by "Posts" (click twice) to see a ranking of the infamous...
