interpolation - Live Preview - weirdness

Postby brynn » Wed Mar 23, 2011 6:39 am

Hi Friends,
Would you mind having a look at the attached file?
I did read the links, bugs and topics that ~suv referenced in my other recent topic about interpolation here. I don't quite follow the leap from interpolation to "transform bug" (and please don't take the time to explain it, unless it's vital to understanding this current problem), so I'm not sure if this is related or not.

After you open the file, open the interpolation extension (Extensions > Generate from Path > Interpolate...). Click Live Preview. When I deselect Live Preview, all the interpolations on the page disappear! Reselecting Live Preview causes the interpolations to reappear, and deselecting again, they disappear again. If I close the file and reopen, the interpolations have reappeared (unless I use Live Preview again).

Corrupted file perhaps? I did NOT notice this behavior yesterday, when I created the file, performing interpolation many times, and using Live Preview also many times.

Whoa! Ok, I opened a different file (that I also made yesterday) where I used interpolate, and the same thing happens there. Yet a 3rd file that I made yesterday -- the one I attached to the other message, does not display this behavior.

I don't remember my line of thinking, why I thought of trying this, but I opened another extension that I know uses Live Preview. So get this, using the same attached file, open the Spirograph extenstion (Extensions > Render > Spirograph). Click Live Preview, deselect Live Preview, and all the interpolation on the canvas disappears....reselect, it reappears, deselect, disappers, etc. And this is with the Spirograph extension, with spirograph not used at all in the drawing. Same thing with Extensions > Render > Random Tree! (I choose these because I happen to remember that they have the Live Preview option.) Also happens with Pattern Along Path extension (you have to OK the error message (this extension requires 2 selected paths)). And if I leave Live Preview selected, then close the dialog, all the interpolation disappers when I close the dialog.

So far this is only happening in 2 out of the 3 files that I made yesterday, all using interpolation. I don't remember changing any global preferences yesterday. I don't remember anything that I might have done to those 2 files, that I didn't do in the 3rd. In fact, the other file that displays this behavior either came from, or is a copy of the one that doesn't.....

Oh wait -- maybe didn't disappear, but moved somewhere else.....ok no, not that I can find anywhere on the canvas.

Ok, I searched Launchpad, and maybe it's related to these bugs?

Thanks for your help :D

Edit -- Sorry, forgot to attach the file

IMHO not related to: Possibly related to:
I failed to reproduce based on your description, maybe you can attach affected SVG files? Don't know yet what is going on, but will try to investigate.

[Edit]thx - got the attached file ;) [/Edit]

Hi ~suv,
Sorry, I forgot to attach the file. Now it's attached to the original post.

Ok, it's most likely

Note: as described in comment #4, the clipped objects are not actually deleted from the file, but are not rendered after toggling the live preview (live preview acts like a 'do/undo' of the extension). You can verify this by opening a duplicate window of the current document (menu 'View > Duplicate Window').

Oh CLIPPED!!!
THAT'S what's different among the files. The clipped ones disappear, and the unclipped one's don't!

OMG ~suv, you have the most amazing brain of anyone I've ever known!!!

Also, I wanted to add this. If I've enabled Live Preview, and then disabled, the clipped objects disappear. If I click OK on the extension, whether anything is selected or not, the clipped objects reappear. I was glad to discover this, because closing and reopening the file was really cumbersome!

~suv, then do I understand correctly that I don't have anything helpful to add via a comment, and that I don't need to do anything else, to help with this bug? Except maybe click 'this affects me too'?

Edit -- Oh, well now I see that you've made a comment for me -- thanks :D

I already added a comment confirming that the same happens when toggling 'Live Preview' as well as a link to this topic here in the forum. Clicking on 'Does this bug affect you?' might be the best option for now (the bug can be reproduced easily with clipped objects, and there are no known workarounds), as is - if you want to receive notifications about any activity with regard to this bug - subscribing to it.
