Greetings all,
Spring is here!
I wanted to draw our property so I can make a landscape drawing for plants, paths and gardens and such. In the document properties I set the page to 300x400 feet and the "default units" and units to ft.
I added a PATH of the property boundary.
If I try to view the path (that is a tad smaller than the page size) I can not see the whole path nor the whole page?
Zoom To Fit Page - does not show the whole page?
Zoom To Selection - does not show the whole PATH?
Zoom To Fit Drawing - does not show the whole drawing?
The rulers are displaying feet. I saved and re-opened the drawing same thing.
Innkcape .48 running on the latest ubuntu...
PS did a bunch searches for what the max sizes are but did not find it although I know that info is out there somewhere.
Not sure if I went over the max or did not set some setting right.
Maximum page, canvas or drawing size...

Maximum page, canvas or drawing size...
Forgive the typos...

Re: Maximum page, canvas or drawing size...
Seems you hit the limit of the zoom levels:
300x400 ft -> 324'000x432'000 px (!)
I'd say that's a rather huge page, compared to what is usually used. Consider drawing to scale, not in real units - like you would on paper - or use a real CAD application where you can define a drawing scale so that you don't have to convert real units to drawing units yourself. Unless of course you plan to print the page from Inkscape (i.e. 1:1) ;-)
I guess you can work with such a large page size in Inkscape, but you'll not be able to zoom out far enough to have the full page visible on your screen. Possibly at some point you might start to hit performance issues or crashes/hangs due to the file size of the document or when exporting to bitmap, and I don't know if such page sizes are supported in export formats like PDF and PostScript (AFAIU the print dialog exports to PS which is then sent towards the printer).

Re: Maximum page, canvas or drawing size...
Thanks for your response!
I could not think of the correct way to really frame the issue in my mind and "zoom levels" certainly did not come to mind.
Thinking in terms of resolution and images would not have come to mind either as I was thinking vector not raster (at least while drawing).
So, the problem seems to be that I picked feet - 300x400 feet?
Mainly I was just trying to not have convert all my measurements - If I measure something in the back yard to be say, 12" 5" it would be nice to make a line and tell the line to be that length - for example.
I can draw the drawing as is, but like you pointed out I can not zoom out far enough, I can only scroll.
I wonder what the best scale would be for doing a landscape drawing?
I will have to wait for a windless day to layout all the pages of my printout at life size!
