Help needed for making oldschool stickers

Postby AgentSmith » Fri Aug 24, 2018 6:35 pm

Hi everyone,
I'm absolutely noob with inkscape and I need to make stickers for restoring an old bike. see below pics of the original model and ones I found on the net.
Is anyone can explain me step by step how to do to copy the originals stickers (such as add a yellow border to the letters "GT", and add a blue/yellow/black stripped background)

Thanks a lot to anyone who will answer, and sorry for my poor english, I'm French

Well the two GT logos are pretty simple to do except for the compensation for the cylindrical curvature of the original, perhaps? The earn your wings is a little more complicated. Have you looked deeply on the internet for vector versions of these images? Someone may already have done it for you. try limiting your search to svg or vector

edit: just for practice I did this from an image I found online. Not sure how copyright applies to restoration projects especially in the EU

Depending on how you are printing and your device you might want to keep the 'spread' strokes on this one

Both of these were done with the trace bitmap routine in Inkscape. If you find a large enough image the results are usually very good in this sort of use.

Hi Druban, thanks a lot for your contribution ^^

the problem is that the files I get are the only ones I found and that I have to modify it to suit the original. The biggest issue I got is on the big GT logo you can see on the front frame tube : I don't know how to make the dark and light blue stripes behind and the yellow border. I don't care about compensating the cylindrical curvate since it doesn't seems to be made on original.

again, thanks a lot for your help.

Thanks a lot for your contribution, Druban.

Here's a pic of what I want to draw :

The problem is that I don't know how to add black/dark and light blue/yellow stripes behind "GT" and the yellow border.

originally, the "earn your wings" is silver letters on black background, but I don't think silver is available as a color in inkscape, so I'll make it white on black I think.

thanks again for your interest ^^

looks like you could just use sheared rectangles behind the logo?
