default templates

Postby kjw » Sat Dec 12, 2009 2:27 am

I have 2 questions for you:

Is there a way to set the "default" template so the "Custom Size" portion of the Document Preferences box is set on inches, not pixels? I have changed the "General Default Units" at the top of the dialog box permanently to inches, but "Custom Size" has me stumped. It just keeps reverting back to pixels every time I start a new doc.

Also, in the "Trace Bitmap" dialog box, I have 2 values I'd like to permanently change in the "Mode" tab. "Colors" (under Single Scan) is automatically set to 8 and "Scans" (under Multiple Scans) is also set to 8.

I'd love to change these once and be done with it instead of doing it every time I use the feature.

Thanks!

KJW

I don't know if I can answer your questions correctly, but I guess I'll give it a try. When you change the Default units to inches, and you notice that the Custom size still reads pixels, what's happening on your canvas, on the rulers? So in other words, I'm wondering if the Custom size units are the only thing affected by this issue, or if other areas are affected?

I do notice that when I change my Default units to inches (v 0.47), the other Format / Page sizes do not change. So that those which show dimensions in eg - mm or inches, are still shown with the same units after I make a change to the Default. It may be that Page size just doesn't respond to the Default units, although admitedly, that doesn't seem very logical.

I wonder if perhaps a restart might be needed to make this particular change take effect? Although again, it would seem logical that a footnote to that affect should appear close by... I guess I can't really give you an answer on this, but hopefully my comments will lead towards the answer.

As for the Trace Bitmap settings, I'm fairly certain that there is no way to permanently set them. I haven't used this feature with the new version 0.47, but with 0.46, I seem to recall that the dialog always opened showing the settings that I had chosen the last time I used it. Although I didn't used it very much, it could be that was just coincidence.

Well, I guess I haven't been much help, but for whatever it's worth, I hope it helps :D

Hi, Guys

You have to save the document as default.svg in your templates folder to preserve the dimension changes.

I have been, but what I want to change remains the same after the save. I guess it can only be changed temporarially and doesn't carry over when saved. Oh, well! Could be worse!
