Tablet PC - No Input Panel

Postby teoma » Fri Jul 10, 2009 5:40 am

I have a Fujitsu STYLISTIC ST5112. It's a slate pc, so it's just a screen, it has no keyboard or anything.

On most windows programs, when you hover over a text field, the tablet input panel icon pops up.

This allows you to open up the input panel to write into the text field with your own handwriting. This doesn't work with either Inkscape or GIMP. Without a keyboard, I have no way to input numbers into fields, such as stroke width, and end up having to hold down the little arrows for a really long time. I assume this is because Inkscape/GIMP use a linux base instead of the windows api.

Is there any workarounds for this? Specifically, is there any way to use the windows tablet input panel with Inkscape/Gimp?

This is probably a GTK issue. Inkscape and GIMP both use GTK to create generate an interface that works on both Windows and Linux. You might have to ask on a GTK forum to get your answer.

I figured it out....you just shake the pen back and forth and the keyboard pops up, and you can use that to input into anything. Though, it would be nice if the gtk was directly compatible with windows....
