Crayola Palette

Postby rosros » Mon Apr 29, 2013 6:17 pm

Crayola palette from wikipedia, for use in Inkscape. Colors are sorted by hue.
Detailed analysis of colors (CMYK) in a pdf file (pdf conversion of a postscript file I programmed manually).

Wow, very nice work!

Crayola has a lot of new colors, since the last time I used crayons, lol. Make me feel old :(

Hi rorros

Very nice palette!! Nice work!

Might be in place to explain "How to use" in Inkscape?
A lot of us are not "power-users" :D
( Which file to download from Deviantart- where to unzip and how to access the palette from Inkscape :) )

How did you get the GPL file from the PDF file?

I would like to hear a bit more about that conversion, but for starters one should place palette in ...\Inkscape\share\palettes and enjoy ,)
:tool_zoom: <<< click! - but, those with a cheaper tickets should go this way >>> :!:

The palette was created by extracting the list of colors values from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Crayola_crayon_colors. Since they are in alphabetical order and I prefer a more visual ordering, I sorted them by hue; there are many ways to do that but I used "python" (programming language). The pdf preview is a different thing, and actually a program I wrote that generates a 'postscript' file (from a palette), that can be then converted to pdf. Inkscape palettes are text files that contain a list of colors in RGB format (+an optional 'Tooltip' after a '#') and can be created manually (I mean by choosing a set of colors and writing them in the required format). The Gimp can create these palettes also by extracting colors from an image.

Nice work Rosros.
I would also need a 'how to download' explanation (for Win 7).
Does this add colors to our default palette, or create a new palette that we can select from?

Hi
flamingolady;

This is a new palette.
To download the palette navigate to the following page; Deviantart
On the right hand side you will see a green download arrow and a "Downoad File" link.
Click the download link and save the file to a temporary location - then unzip the file and place in the
Palette directory of Inkscape - Installdir/Inkscape/Share/Palettes where Installdir might be "C:/ProgramFiles" or something similar.
( Restart Inkscape if it was open while copying the file. )

To use change the palette from the very well "hidden" palette menu;
See image below;

Click image for larger version.

Thank you for this nice palette. Makes me feel like drawing birthday cards for my nieces.
