I'm new to Inkscape so either I'm doing something wrong or there is something wrong with the software. But, it will not let me pick a color. When I click on layers i can see that I do not have multiple layers, so I'm obviously working in the right layer. But, for whatever reason it will not let me use colors. I can pick different colors down below but when i use the fill tool it doesn't work. And when i try to make a circle with the circle tool, you can't see the circle, you can only see the guide box or square around where the circle would be if it were a color and you could see it. I'm guessing the circle is there it's just invisible since colors are not working. What's up with this?

I've tried uninstalling the program and reinstalling the program, but that didn't work.

Ok, I noticed that I can not see my circle when it's on "flat color". I see no colors at all on "flat color", but if I switch it to one of the other options like linear gradient, radial gradient, pattern, or swatch I can see my colored circle. Every time I make a new circle or shape it automatically jumps back to flat color making my shape invisible again. Is that normal?

What's probably happening is that the last remember style has an overall 100% transparency, so you pick the color and it's applied, but the shape is still completely invisible.



Now, how Inkscape decides what was the last style used... It has always been a mystery to me.

Thanks for the help Uktrunie and Brynn. I'm not sure why my shapes and colors were invisible. I just installed the program for the first time the other day and they were invisible the first time I used the program. But, now I can see shapes and colors and I'm not even sure what I did that fixed it. The opacity in the fill tab, stroke paint tab, and layers tab is all at 100%. But, I never even messed with the opacity so it must have been something else. I was having a little trouble with the fill options. Seems like I couldn't get any of them to work the other day, but now they're working just fine, so that might have had something to do with it.
