Eroded / rubbed off paint effect.

Postby nick00 » Mon Apr 28, 2014 8:03 am

Hello all,

I'm still pretty inexperienced with inkscape but I am enjoying it so far. With GIMP, I am pretty good, but for this project (and to generally improve), Inkscape is my weapon of choice.

I am getting a tattoo - the last one I got was when I was 15, that was 30 years ago and now I am getting another and I would really appreciate your help in achieving that.

My ten year old son, Jack is autistic - severely, which means that he doesn't communicate at all really. The jigsaw piece and colour blue are symbols of autism, as you may already know, so here's my design idea:

I'd like a jigsaw piece shape (hopefully I can manage that), coloured golden but with some of the golden colour rubbed off to reveal blue underneath. Above will be the words 'Silence is not Golden'. Underneath will be something like '... but love needs no words'. This is kind of a mish-mash of a couple of other designs that I have seen.

So, first I need to work out how to achieve the rubbed off paint effect but I'd be delighted if you guys could dip into this and make any other suggestions as I go along.

Thanks,
Nick.

Hi.

Can you show us your sketches, and example images of the rubbed off paint look you are after?

Ah, apologies - life got in the way. As it turned out, the tattooist can replicate the effect anyway! Sorry, I wasn't ignoring you or meaning to be rude!

masking with a grunge texture may be a good solution
