CMYK color input changes

Postby jakobdkp » Sat May 28, 2011 7:51 am

Hi

I suddenly seem unable to input color figures manually in the fill/stroke dialogue. The problem occurs with CMYK color only. I have done it a zillion times, but suddenly it isn't working.

If I for instance try to edit C to "44" using the keyboard, then TAB to M and enter "47", then TAB to Y and enter "78", and finally K to "20", the numbers are suddenly all screwed up. When I input the final number, all the numbers change and I end up with C: 0, M: 6, Y: 61 K: 55.

What's up with that? Have I changed some weird preference that I know nothing about?

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Thanks!

You should know it you have used SYMK in inkscpae before, ut inkscape internally reresents all colors as RGB(A) values, and saves the coulour you enter as RGB(A) when you input CYMK values. Normally, this conversion should happen at the end of entering in CYMK valuses, but this might not work/ is brocken... [not sure on that]. Anyway, the mapping between GRB and CYMK is not one to one, eg there might be multipile CYMK values for one RGB value. look up colourspace conversions... so as you enter a CYMK value, Inkscape does the conversion CYMK->RGB (internal)->CYMK (display value), which can lead to changes to the CYMK value you enter.

Not sure of workarounds or how to solve the problem, but I hope the expilnation helped...
